The Great Beaver Quest - Canada Motif Beaver - Public Art for Old Town Toronto

My beaver design involves a vibrant motif that is instantly recognizable as Canadian- the maple leaf. Designed to be bright and eye-catching, this beaver is treated simply as a surface to cover in a universal symbol of national pride. Many of the maple leaves in this design reference the leaves of native maple species that can be found within Canada.

I was one of 51 artists selected to paint one of 51 approximately 3 foot beaver sculptures. Old Town Toronto BIA was the client I worked with for this public art. The beavers were scattered around the Old Town Toronto neighbourhood in Toronto, ON to celebrate the city hosting a well known world soccer tournament. They were part of a scavenger hunt where passerbys could scan the QR codes to enter to win prizes. The beaver sculptures were auctioned for charity after their display (mine was in the public from July to August) and my Canada Motif Beaver was the highest bidded one with the final bid being $10,000!
